We went to paddle this in Feb 2008 and got shut down by the park rangers. They were adamant that paddling the river was dangerous and illegal, and would not let us into the park with our kayaks. We persisted and talked (fluent Spanish) to the head ranger at the park, who was also unwilling to let us in. We hiked the river and it looked good to go. Beautiful area.
